Homeowners Insurance

Your home is more than just a building.  It is a place of comfort and safety for you and your family; your sanctuary.  For most of us, it is the single most important investment we have.  Let us help you find the right coverage at the right price to protect this most valuable asset.

Some Things To Consider

*Replacement cost:  The replacement cost of your home may be different than the purchase price of your home, the market value, or the amount of your mortgage.  Replacement cost is the amount of money it will take to replace your home based on today's prices.

*Actual Cash Value:  Your homeowners insurance may be written on an actual cash value (ACV) basis.  ACV is the purchase price of your home and contents less depreciation.  It is a little less costly, but the coverage is dramatically reduced from replacement cost coverage.

*Special Items:  Things like jewelry, works of art, guns, and collectables have a set limit of coverage in most homeowners policies.  These limits can be increased by declaring a higher value.  You may want to revisit the value of these items to ensure you have adequate coverage.

*Flood Insurance:  Flood is an excluded peril in a homeowners policy.  Flood insurance is available from most insurance companies. Coverage is available for both the structure and your contents. Depending on where you are located, some mortgage companies will require you carry flood insurance. Did you know that 28% of all floods are not in a flood plane? Ask your HSM Insurance professional about flood insurance.

*Do you operate a home based business?  If you do, we may want to add a coverage extension to cover your home based business.

*Domestic Employees:  Do you have a lawn person/gardener, a house keeper or a nanny/babysitter?  If so we may want to add coverage to your homeowners insurance for the special risks presented by domestic employees.

* The coverage outlines listed above are general in nature and are not intended to replace your policy. Please read your homeowners policy for specific coverage terms, conditions and limitations.
